Voting in The People’s Money

About The People's Money

Organized by the NYC Civic Engagement Commission (CEC), The People's Money is a groundbreaking initiative that empowers New Yorkers to have a direct say in how public funds are allocated. Through a process known as Participatory Budgeting, community members from across the city gather to brainstorm, propose, and vote on ideas that improve their neighborhoods and benefit the entire city.

What is Participatory Budgeting (PB)?

Participatory Budgeting is a democratic process where community members decide how to spend part of a public budget. In New York City, the 2024–2025 Participatory Budgeting cycle offers a chance for residents to generate and vote on proposals that tackle local needs. Ideas can range from infrastructure improvements to social programs that strengthen the community.

NYC Civic Engagement Commission

The NYC Civic Engagement Commission leads this citywide initiative, ensuring that residents from all backgrounds have a platform to voice their opinions and directly influence city spending decisions. By connecting communities with resources and decision-making power, the CEC is fostering greater civic involvement.
